Current Mission: Lose Weight – Week 1 Check-in

June 28, 2020
Ultimate Portion Fix by Autumn Calabrese and Beachbody

I’m currently on Day 7 of 60 in this new program I’m doing.

Spoiler Alert – things are going pretty well so far! For more details, keep reading.

What am I doing?

I signed up for Beachbody’s Ultimate Portion Fix nutrition program. This is what’s known as their “container system” and it teaches you normal portion sizes for what you’re eating as well as balancing your macro-nutrients. With this, I’m also doing Shakeology because – all in, right? and I chose Barre Blend as my workout program.

Barre Blend is a 60 day workout program so I’m committing to all of it, nutrition, shakes, and workouts, for 60 days and then we’ll see where I’m at.

How did week 1 go?

Pretty awesome actually! I was a bit nervous going into this if I’m honest. I was nervous that the container system would be restrictive, that I wouldn’t like the taste of the shakes, that I’d spend this money and not complete it – like just about every other workout program/challenge/community I’ve tried.

But so far, so good.

Also, I want to shout out to Kelly and Amy here (my new friends who started the exact same program and workout as I did and also on the same day!) Checking in with these amazing ladies daily has kept me on point.

Nutrition This Week: 7 out of 7 days.

I ate no more than my containers 7 out of 7 days. I planned ahead for two “treats” this week and while I could have been more dialed in on my nutrition, I was aware and tried to make decent choices. I am choosing to use up food I have in my pantry instead of completely scrapping everything for budget reasons but I still ate pretty healthy.

The system isn’t restrictive at all for me. I’m on “Plan B” and I struggle to eat all of my containers each day. Really, it’s the 3rd fruit serving that I struggle to eat. As a matter of fact, I didn’t get that 3rd fruit serving any day this entire week. There was only one evening (Friday night) that I felt “hungry” or like I was missing out and if I’m honest, that’s because my boyfriend was sitting on the couch next to me eating fried chicken and biscuits while I was eating grilled chicken, quinoa, and green beans. That combined with a long day at work had me mistakenly feeling hungry. I say “mistakenly” because I simply drank more water, and waited 15 minutes for my brain to register I had eaten (and for J to finish his fried chicken and get it out of my face lol) and all of a sudden, I wasn’t really hungry anymore.

I even gave myself a “treat” – which is totally allowed on this program – and had a glass of wine on Friday night and another one on Saturday. Being able to do that made it feel even less restrictive than I originally thought it’d would be so I’m pretty happy about that.

The Shakeology is decent. It does taste like a protein shake, so if you don’t like the taste of protein powder, you probably won’t like it. But if you’re used to protein shakes, it tastes pretty standard. I got the Cafe Latte flavor with whey protein which tastes just fine to me! I put in some almond milk and Flavor God seasoning (see more details below) and it’s actually delicious!

I also found myself ordering one of their limited edition flavors (Salted Caramel) this week. This one was the vegan powder and if I’m honest, it was just “meh.” The flavor definitely tasted like salted caramel which was delicious, but there was this strong after taste to me that I wasn’t really fond of. I had seen from a couple of girl’s in the Facebook group that they feel the vegan powders always have the after taste and that’s why they get the whey. Some people’s bodies can’t handle the whey protein easily so they need the vegan. I totally get it, but unless another limited edition flavor comes out that I feel I can’t live without, I think I’ll be sticking with the whey from here on out.

Now. Let’s talk about Flavor God seasonings. Oh. My. Goodness.

I did go a bit overboard with my first order, if I’m honest. I ordered an embarrassing amount of spices from these guys simply because I saw a YouTube video about how they were awesome. It was definitely an impulse buy. But my oh my am I so happy with this purchase.

Not only is it extremely flavorful, they have zero calories, zero sugar, less than 1 gram of carbs (important for me as a Type 1 Diabetic), and 0 sodium. But y’all. They are SOOOO YUMMY!

I have so far tried: chocolate donut, chipotle, everything, and garlic lovers and all of them have tasted just like the real thing. Some I haven’t tried yet but are in my collection and I so can’t wait to try them are: pizza, tacos, cheese, and buttery cinnamon roll.

Yes, you read that right. Buttery. Cinnamon. Roll. With no sugar, no calories, but all the flavor.

And yes, there are even more flavors in my current collection. I refuse to tell you how many because it’s downright ridiculous. 🙂

You really need to try them. Hands down, they are what I currently think will make this next 60 days a great experience for me. And no, I’m not affiliated with them in any way. They are just good.

Fitness: 6 out of 5 days

With the Barre Blend program, you only work out Monday – Friday. Not only did I do every single Barre Blend workout, I woke up on Sunday actually wanting to move, so I did yoga that day too.

The program was fun for me but I also used to be a dancer. I had a few days this week I was sore and the workouts were definitely hard so don’t let the light weights and low impact description fool you. It’s hard work. Or at least it was for me.

Weekly Grade: 95 out of 100.

I totally give myself an A this week. But not a perfect score. Nutrition could have been less processed. But my processed food included things like a Falafel Power Bowl, so it totally could have been worse. Baby steps.

Results to date: Down 3 pounds.
